Forex Volume

Looking at Forex volume can help you make better assumptions when you are about to get into the market with a trade. This is not the type of volume that you're going to hear when you're trading the market and you turn up the speakers on your computer. While your Forex trading platform will make some sounds occasionally, this is not the volume that I'm talking about.

Forex Volume

Volume is a metric that looks at how many people are involved in the Forex market at any given time. When many traders are involved in the market, this constitutes a high volume. When hardly anyone is trading, this tells you that the volume is low.

What it Tell You

When you look at indicators and find out that you have a large amount of volume in the market, it tells you a few things. Typically, when a new trend forms, a large amount of volume must be present.

Forex volume

If the market has a very low volume, this tells you that the market is heading sideways and traders are unsure of which way the market is headed.

When the volume in the market increases, this can strengthen an existing trend or help form a new one. This means that you cannot simply rely on the volume to tell you which way the market is headed, but you can use it in conjunction with other indicators and tools.

Indicators

To determine the volume in the market, you can use many different indicators. For example, one of the most common ways to evaluate the volume in the market is Bollinger Bands. With Bollinger Bands, you see lines moving around the outside of the price line. If the outside lines are close together, this tells you that the volume in the market is very small. If the bands expand, this tells you that the volume is starting to grow.

Many platforms offer an indicator that simply tells you the volume in the market at any given time. While the information in the indicator may not be completely accurate, it gives you a good idea of what is going on.

Considerations

The volume in the market is one of the most important indicators for you to consider. In fact, some believe that the only thing more important than the volume is the price itself. Before you make a trade using an indicator or get in the habit of checking the volume to see what to expect.
